Student Accident & Sickness Insurance Program (09-10)

Visit Markel Insurance (08-09)

Washington College requires that all domestic students have the opportunity to demonstrate adequate health insurance coverage by waiver, or must purchase the college plan. All international students are required to purchase health insurance through the college. Any students whose insurance will not cover them at college are encouraged to purchase this insurance.

For the 09/10 academic year the college will be offering our students health insurance through University Health Plans. The premium for this insurance will be $900 for the entire year. Specific questions concerning coverage provided under this insurance plan should be directed to University Health Plans at 800-437-6448. Brochures will be mailed to all returning students on or around June 1st, or you may go to the website www.universityhealthplans.com.

Returning students who do not wish to purchase this insurance must waive coverage by August 24, 2009. Failure to waive coverage will result in the student automatically billed for insurance. First Year & Transfer students do not need to waive on line, they have been mailed a form to complete. Once added this charge will not be removed from the student's bill.

If you feel that your private health insurance will adequately meet your needs while at Washington College, you may waive the Accident and Sickness Insurance fee on-line.

  1. Visit www.universityhealthplans.com
  2. Click on "Washington College"
  3. Select the Student Accident & Sickness Plan option
  4. Click on the "WAIVE" button to the left
  5. Fill in all the required information – if any information is missing, your waiver will NOT be accepted.
  6. Submit the Waiver Form. Within a few minutes after completing the waiver process, you will receive an email response indicating whether your form was accepted or not. Be sure to print the confirmation for your records, as this is the only documentation indicating that the form was submitted. If the form is not accepted, fill it out again and resubmit. If it still is not accepted, contact University Health Plans via email (click on icon at bottom of webpage), or at 1-800-437-6448 or (617) 472-5324.

FAILURE TO COMPLETE the on-line Waiver Form by the Fall Semester deadline of August 24, 2009 will result in your mandatory purchase of the College’s Student Insurance Plan for the 2009-2010 Academic Year without the possibility of later waiver, refund or cancellation.
